Endodontic periodontal relationship
Endodontic periodontal relationship
In essence, the endodontic-periodontal relationship highlights the complex interplay between the pulp and the supporting tissues of the tooth, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive approach to diagnosis and treatment when dealing with these interconnected diseases.
Contal relationship refers to the interconnectedness of the dental pulp (endodontic) and the surrounding tissues of the tooth (periodontium). Diseases in one area can affect the other, leading to complex clinical presentations and diagnostic challenges.
Key aspects of the endodontic-periodontal relationship:
Communication Pathways:
The pulp and periodontium are connected through various pathways, including accessory and lateral canals, allowing for the spread of infection and inflammation.
Interdependence of Diseases:
Periodontal disease can cause pulpal inflammation and vice versa. For example, severe periodontal disease can lead to pulpal infection via accessory canals.
Endo-Perio Lesions:
When both endodontic and periodontal issues coexist in the same tooth, it's called an endo-perio lesion. These lesions can present with similar symptoms, making diagnosis difficult.
Challenges in Diagnosis:
Distinguishing between primary endodontic, primary periodontal, and combined lesions requires careful clinical and radiographic examination.
Treatment Considerations:
Treatment approaches vary depending on the nature and extent of the endodontic and periodontal involvement. Endodontic treatment (root canal) is often the initial focus, followed by periodontal therapy if needed.
Importance of Accurate Diagnosis:
Correctly identifying the primary source of the problem is crucial for effective treatment planning and achieving favorable outcomes.
Lasers in Periodontal surgery
Periodontal diseases affect a large population. Management of periodontal diseases encompasses the removal of periodontal pockets.
Eradication of pockets by the surgical approach encounters bleeding and inadequate instrumentation
Lasers have become an important tool for periodontal treatment with faster, adequate, and bloodless surgery. Herewith, several surgical procedures are shown with lasers
