Dentists urging for amendments to COVID-19 measures

Dentists call for Britain’s chief dental officials to finalize a new roadmap for dentistry as covid curbs continue to ease.

The British Dental Association (BDA) is urging the Scottish Dental Clinical Effectiveness Programme (SDCEP) to club together with a blueprint to safely relax COVID-19 measures within the dental profession.

Ever Since March 2020, approximately 30 million dental appointments have been lost.

Dr. Eddie Crouch, BDA Chair said, ‘It is almost a year since face-to-face treatment resumed in the UK, but the limitations we work to remain largely unaffected.’

So, we have called all four UK chief dental officials to initiate work on a roadmap to relieve restrictions.

The threat we face from the virus must be balanced against the millions unable to gain access to dental care, and risks to the very sustainability of the dental service.

Dr. Neel Kothari, a dentist agrees that now is the time to relax the curbs that have restricted dentistry since March.

But we nevertheless have the safety measures of the pandemic. It is very complicated to know when we go back to normal again.

The next query is, when and how does it stop? How to get through the backlog of patients?
